Immigration in Year of the Dragon

Atty. Emmanuel S. Tipon

Should immigrants expect bold immigration reform laws this year?

Atty. Emmanuel Samonte Tipon

The lawyer told his client to wear something with red at the immigration interview, cautioning her that it would not be easy. This is the Year of the Dragon, he pointed out. Red is the color of the Year and is a lucky color.  She had married her fiancé who was half her age. When she showed up, she was dressed completely in red, with red shoes, red lipstick, and a ruby necklace. Her lawyer thought she would wear something like Angelina Jolie at the Golden Globes, white with a touch of red above her breast. Her husband wore a black suit and red shirt.

How did they fare at the interview which was actually their second? The officer interviewed them separately asking the same questions. Their answers did not completely match. In the critical area of intimate relations, their answers did not jibe on when was the last time, leaving the woman irritated, saying it was only yesterday. Maybe it was not unforgettable that was why he forgot, joked the lawyer. So much for the color red.

An America built to last insists on responsibility from everybody.

Following is President Obama’s excerpted State of the Union address delivered last week at United States Capitol in  Washington, D.C.

The state of our Union is getting stronger.  And we’ve come too far to turn back now.  As long as I’m President, I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum.  But I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place.

No, we will not go back to an economy weakened by outsourcing, bad debt, and phony financial profits.  Tonight, I want to speak about how we move forward, and lay out a blueprint for an economy that’s built to last -– an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy, skills for American workers, and a renewal of American values.

Now, this blueprint begins with American manufacturing.

Filipina marrying US chat buddy ends up dead

MANILA – This cyber-romance does not have a happy ending.

A former overseas Filipino worker from Pangasinan is now dead a month after going to the United States to marry an American she befriended in an online chatroom.

Christine Bolor, 35, first befriended Kurt Syverson from Vancouver, Washington via online chat in 2010.

Last November, Syverson visited Bolor at her home in Sitio Las Vegas in Bonuan Gueset town, Pangasinan.

Christine’s father, Dionisio, said Syverson treated her daughter well during his brief stay in the country. He said the American was employed as a transformer technician.

On December 2, 2011, Bolor left with Syverson for Vancouver to get married. A report on The Columbian showed that the couple had filed for a marriage license last December 22.

On January 15, 2012, Christine's family was informed that she had killed herself by hanging. A report on the Tributes website, however, said Christine died on January 16.

Dionisio said he does not know what would push his daughter to end her life.

He, however, said Christine once told him that the American would still say “I love you” to his ex-wife in front of Christine.

He also learned that Syverson’s ex-wife would always bother Christine since she arrived in the United States.

Christine’s remains arrived in her hometown yesterday (Thursday), and will be buried on February 11.

Dionisio said his relatives did not allow Syverson to visit since they do not believe the claim that she ended her own life.

Christine’s family is asking the United States Embassy to investigate the Filipina’s death.- ABS-CBN News

Another alien ‘amnesty’ hoax?

To obtain a waiver for lack of an immigrant visa, you must have a qualifying relative.

Another alien ‘amnesty’ hoax?

We received two calls yesterday one from Southern California and the other from Northern California about a proposed “amnesty” by the Obama administration for illegal aliens. They wanted to know whether a “friend” of theirs one being the son of a deceased U.S. citizen and the other being the parent of a U.S. resident were covered by the “amnesty.”  They said there were people saying that they could help obtain “amnesty..

We told these folks that this is just another “hoax” or “palabas” of the Obama administration like the one we wrote about last year regarding a new policy of the Obama administration to review the deportation cases of innocent young children who were brought illegally to the United States in order to concentrate resources on criminal aliens.  Only last week an innocent young son of an alien who was brought illegally to the United States was arrested by immigration officers and placed in detention. “Review,” indeed.
