MANILA - A suspected Abu Sayyaf Group trainer was arrested by soldiers and police at the Zamboanga International Airport Monday morning.
Muktar Ladjafirma, who uses the aliases Tuan Muks and Ustadz Muks, is facing 6 counts of kidnapping with serious illegal detention for his alleged participation in the kidnapping of 6 members of Jehovah's Witness in Patikul, Sulu in 2002, according to Task Force Zamboanga commander Col. "The government offered P600,000 for his arrest," Colina said.
Muktar arrived in Zamboanga City early Monday morning from Cebu. He was arrested after he got off the plane.
Colina said Muktar is a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group's terrorist urban squad based in Tawi-Tawi and is also allegedly a trainer in the jihad doctrine.
Authorities in Zamboanga City also arrested 3 suspected members of the bandit group at a mall.
Colina said kidnapping remains a threat in Zamboanga City.
"The threat is always there," Colina said. "We have already warned potential kidnap victims, particularly those in the city's west coast area."
Colina also said members of the Abu Sayyaf Group no longer just stays in the island-provinces of the ARMM like Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, but have established a group in Zamboanga City.
