Alice H. Reyes: Speaking of love

Love is not for the faint of heart.

Remember the lines from a popular song which say “ Fools rush in where” angels fear to thread”?

Love is a wonderful feeling, but lovers need to be aware that it is both agony and ecstasy.

There is nothing as exhilarating  as  being  in love.  One’s heart beats a little faster  at the sight of the beloved.  One seems to melt as one gazes at the beloved’s eyes. One views the world and the people in it with rose-colored glasses.

Everything is fine when one loves and is loved in return.

Sadly, love is not static. It wanes or grows with the passage of time.

Lovers need to remember that people change. If they are not vigilant, one may outgrow the other.

Lyricists  aptly speak of the  reality of love. In a song from the movie. “Marjorie Morningstar”, the lyricist  states:”An echo in the breeze, across the summer sky, is saying you should know that lanterns lose their glow and love  can die…”

Every day, somewhere in this world,   hearts are figuratively broken when love dies.

Fortunately, the heart is resilient, and in time, the heart will heal  and be able to love again.

Woe to the faint of heart who have given up on love!

Truly, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all!
