MANILA/TOKYO, Japan – Siblings Eldrew and Elaiza Yulo have returned to Japan!
“They’re back for another intensive training camp, ready to push beyond their limits and elevate their abilities to greater heights,” KG Management stated in a Facebook post.
With hearts full of passion and minds focused on excellence, the sibling will immerse themselves in thorough training to further hone their skills, the post added.
“With the guidance of their coaches, Coach Munehiro Kugimiya, Coach Reyland Capellan, and Coach Michael Sumabal, and immersed in Japan’s well-known training environment, they will improve their techniques, enhance their strength and flexibility, and fine-tune their mental toughness,” the group added.
Meanwhile, Senatorial aspirant Luis “Chavit” Singson displayed his golden heart anew when he handed P500,000 to Karl Eldrew Yulo as reward for bagging four gold medals in the 3rd JRC Artistic Gymnastics Stars Championships in Thailand last week.
Singson said Yulo deserves the incentive for showing hard work and determination to become the country’s next gymnastics sensation after his older brother, Carlos, clinched two gold medals in the Paris Olympics last August.
The 16-year-old Yulo bagged gold medals in junior individual all-around event, floor exercise, still rings and vault on top of the silver medals in parallel bars and team all-around event to emerge as one of the most successful athletes in the prestigious tournament.
Joining Yulo during the simple turnover were his mother Angelica, father Andrew and sister Elaiza as well as Singson’s daughter in Ako Ilocano Ako Partylist Rep. Richelle Singson-Michael.
Two weeks ago, the former Ilocos Sur governor gave them P1 million as an early Christmas present in their Malate home while wishing that they mend fences with Carlos.
“Love and respect are essential values of a Filipino family,” said Singson, who is known for being a loving father despite his strong political will and determination to improve the lives of the Filipinos.
“I am offering myself to be the catalyst of love and forgiveness within the Yulo family. My only wish is for them to finally settle their differences and be united as we celebrate the Christmas season,” he added as reported by Daily Tribune and Manila media.
Carlos Yulo’s younger siblings first started their serious bid to make it to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 when they flew to Japan for short training last October under the same coach that honed their older brother as they set their sights on their ambitious bid of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Karl Eldrew, 16, and Elaiza, 15, are now part of Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya’s training camp in Japan where they are expected to learn and improve their gymnastics skills.
Some reports indicated that Eldrew and Elaiza hope to earn a spot in the Philippine national team which will compete in the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand next year.
Karl Eldrew previously trained in Japan last year with Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Juancho Miguel Besana.
“Yes [they are in a training camp in Japan]. [It’s a] training camp but Coach Mune looked for sponsorship for the kids,” Angelica Yulo said.
Angelica said the siblings arrived in Japan last Oct. 17.
It was reported that the two siblings are attending a 10-day training camp in Japan. It was not known if they training will be extended.
It can be recalled the Kugimiya was a long-time mentor of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo for almost a decade before parting ways last year.
Coach Kugimiya said, “I hope the two of them can be at ease and train with no worries here.”
Kugimiya said he hopes for the best for the Yulo siblings during their stay in Japan.
“I hope the two of them can be at ease and train with no worries here,” Kugimiya said.
The report stated that Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion earlier revealed plans to include Eldrew in their 2028 LA lineup, possibly competing alongside Carlos in the latter’s bid to defend his two gold medals in the Summer Games.
“Eldrew could improve much better. This is to support their growth and be the best junior champion,” Carrion said of the Japan training of the siblings.
Eldrew has won multiple medals in national multi-sport events while Elaiza scored five gold medals during the recent Palarong Pambansa to make his serious bid in the sport.
In April, Karl Eldrew won a gold medal in the floor exercise in the junior men’s division of the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships at the Coliseo El Pueblo in Cali, Colombia.
Eldrew and Elaiza are being eyed to follow in the footsteps Carlos Yulo, who delivered two gold medals during the Paris Olympics in the floor exercise and vault events.
