HEALTH & WEALTH: 10 habits for good health and longevity
As a columnist and author of the Amazon best-selling book “LONGEVITY TIPS” subtitled “Secrets You Can Discover and Do for Good Health and Longevity” and founder of FITNESS FOR HUMANITY (aka FITNESS FOR CHRIST), I’m delighted to read last week…
HEART OF HOPE: TCE and Parkinson’s
About 90,000 individuals are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in the United States each year. In the Philippines, thousands of new cases are detected annually, with a prevalence of around 0.55 percent, but there are no actual data available. Globally, about 1.18 million cases of Parkinson’s are diagnosed each year.
WHO: 1 in 5 adults still addicted to tobacco
The world is smoking less, but the tobacco epidemic is far from over. A new WHO global report shows the number of tobacco users has dropped from 1.38 billion in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024. Since 2010, the number of people using tobacco has dropped by 120 million – a 27% drop in relative terms. Yet, tobacco still hooks one in five adults worldwide, fuelling millions of preventable deaths every year.
HEART OF HOPE: Sweeteners and brain decline
An 8-year study among individuals 35 and older revealed a link between sugar substitutes and brain health. Those using artificial sweeteners showed a 62 percent faster decline in overall thinking and memorial skills.
HEART OF HOPE: Sex during pregnancy
Today, we are answering sensitive questions about sex during pregnancy emailed to us by our readers over the years. We strongly believe that a frank discussion of any medical issue, including sex, is fundamental in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good health in general, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
HEART OF HOPE (Dr Philip S Chua): ‘Liquid Candy’: Unhealthy
we wrote that soft drinks (which I call “liquid candy”), cola or uncola, diet or regular, or in any other form, are, by and large, unhealthy, especially for children. Not only because the regular ones are loaded with sugar (high carb, super calories), but because of the other adverse effects the ingredients in these soft drinks (without exception!) have on people’s health.
HEART OF HOPE (Dr Philip S. Chua): Poison of your choice
The World Health Organization, starting in 1987, observes “World No Tobacco Day” on May 31st each year to remind people around the globe about the deadly effects of smoking and to inspire smokers to quit the habit as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
HEART OF HOPE: Air Travel: Medical Tips
Changes in barometric pressure, decreased oxygen tension, circadian dysrhythmia, psychological stress, dehydration, and effects of air turbulence are the major problems associated with air travel.

HEART OF HOPE (Dr Philip S Chua): Liver pills: A scam
Protecting the public from misinformation, fraud, and all forms of scams is one of the reasons I write this column. Inspiring people to live a healthy lifestyle has been my goal since I was at the Arellano (Public) High School, where I wrote my featured health column, Ultra-Facts, in the student paper, The Chronicler and Tambuli.
