FAMAS Awards rites set; Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes to get top grosser trophy for ‘Rewind’

Reel and real couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes will be given special honors at this year’s Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards.

The actors will both receive the FAMAS Bida sa Takilya Award, which are given to those who star in blockbuster movies — in DongYan’s case, it’s for their work in their comeback movie “Rewind.”

Rewind” has become the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time in Philippine domestic sales closing in to nearly P1 billion, GMA News reported following the FAMAS announcement. The movie is currently available on Netflix.

The FAMAS Awards will be held on May 26 at the Fiesta Pavilion at the Manila Hotel.

Marian and Dingdong tied the knot in 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City. They welcomed their children Zia in 2015 and Sixto in 2019.

A new season of the couple’s comedy sitcom “Jose & Maria’s Bonggang Villa” is now airing on GMA-7.

Marian is also starring in her comeback series, “My Guardian Alien.” She is also set to star in the Cinemalaya 2024 film, “Balota.”

In January, the film became the Philippines’ highest-grossing film of all time. It also surpassed the previous record in domestic sales set by “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards.

The film was part of the recent Metro Manila Film Festival and Manila International Film Festival in California.

Rewind” marks DongYan’s return to the big screen since 2010’s “You to Me Are Everything.”
