BANGKOK/MANILA – Karl Eldrew Yulo won the individual all-around gold medal in the JRC Artistic Stars Championships in Thailand, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines reported.
Aside from an individual all-around gold medal, gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo won three more gold medals in the 3rd JRC Artistic Gymnastics Stars Championships in Bangkok.
Meanwhile, politician, businessman and sportsman Luis Chavit Singson gave the Yulo family P1 million of promised P5 million for Carlos Yulo’s reconciliation with his family.
Singson is pushing for the renewed ties between double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his family in time for the Yuletide season.
Singson called for a better relationship between the two sides as he visited the Yulos at home in Leveriza, Malate, Manila.
According to the former Ilocos Sur governor and mayor of Narvacan, he is “offering himself to be a catalyst of love and forgiveness.”
“No amount of success should overshadow one’s love and respect for his family. Forgiveness, understanding and compassion should always prevail among members of Filipino families,” he said in a statement.
“And with the most wonderful time of the year fast approaching, Filipinos are praying for the Yulos to hand them a gift that’s more precious than gold – the gift of unity in the family,” Singson added.
Karl Eldrew ruled the floor exercise, still rings, and vault events. He also copped a silver for parallel bars.
Aside from Karl Eldrew, who is the younger brother of Carlos Yulo, the country’s junior men’s artistic gymnastics team claimed silver.
Jacob Alvarez, who competed in the MAG Pre-Junior category, also won gold in the individual all-around, vault, floor exercise, horizontal bar, and still rings, and silver in pommel horse and parallel bars.
Aside from Yulo, King Cjay Pernia also had a bronze for vault in the event.
The GAP also said the Philippines had 20 medals (12 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze) in the Australian Level Competitions.
Karl Eldrew and his sister Elaiza recently had short training in Japan under Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya, the former coach of Carlos.
