NEW YORK CITY — Award winning Filipino stage actor and singer Lea Salonga is among the honorees and nominees at the 2025 Drama League Awards!
The Tony and Olivier award-winning actress was nominated for the Distinguished Performance Award for “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends,” a production in celebration of late composer and lyricist.
Lea is also an honoree at this year’s Drama League Awards, where she is set to receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater.
Other honorees include Kate Navin and Audible Theater (Contribution to the Theater Award), Whitney White (Founders Award for Excellence in Directing), and Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron (Gratitude Award).
Other Filipino American stage actors who are nominees are Tatianna Cordoba, Darren Criss, and Nicole Scherzinger and Lea’s co-star Beth Leavel.
Córdoba (“Real Women Have Curves”), Criss (“Maybe Happy Ending”), Salonga (“Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends”), and Scherzinger (“Sunset Boulevard”) are among the contenders vying for the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Awar.
The musical “Oh, Mary!” with Filipino actor Corad Ricamora was also nominated for Outstanding Production of a Play, while “Sunset Boulevard” with Scherzinger was nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.
The musicals “Boob!” with Angelica Hale, “Maybe Happy Ending” with Criss and Christopher James Tamayo, “Operation Mincemeat” with Claire-Marie Halle, “Real Women Have Curves” with Córdoba and “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends” with Salonga are nominated for Outstanding Production of A Musical.
On social media, Salonga expressed happiness about the nominations.
Early this year, Drama League Awards named Salonga as one of the luminaries to receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater Award, a recognition which highlights her contributions to musical theater.
