The race to the White House will end on November 5, 2024 and the penultimate lap was held Monday at Chicago during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with Vice President Kamala Harris nomination as the party’s standard bearer for president.
Last Monday’s first day of the convention was full of hope, excitement, dynamism. energy, and enthusiasm with former first Lady, former senator, and former secretary of State Hillary Clinton and president Joe Biden at the helm. It was a call for freedom, unity and the quest for the welfare of the Americans as a whole, the bigger picture that go beyond voting for Harris and Gov. Tim Walz.
In addition to that, the 4-day convention was highlighted by two former presidents (Barack Obama and Bill Clinton), two former first ladies (Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton), former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and many other prominent party leaders, businessmen, and movie personalities…
As things developed, there are eight positive indicators that Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party nominee will possibly win the presidency, As I See It!
First, President Joe Biden did the right thing in dropping from the race and endorsing Harris to replace him as the party candidate. Surveys had shown that in so short a time, Harris is now leading the national polls and some key states over Trump. The political landscape has completely changed. The race became very competitive, unlike when Biden didn’t drop out yet when Trump was having a sure path to the White House.
Second, the personal attacks of Trump against Harris are not working as far as the voters are concerned. Even among GOP leaders, they are cautioning Trump to stay on focus on policies and not personal attacks! “Former Republican presidential candidate and former UN ambassador and North Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said: “Stop attacking Kamala, this is not the way to win the presidency!” Haley told Fox News that the Trump campaign and Republicans need to change their approach when it comes to attacking Kamala Harris.
Joey Garrison in his article in USA Today said “Kamala Harris is ahead or tied with Donald Trump in six of seven battleground states, according to a new survey released Wednesday, erasing the leads the former Republican president enjoyed before Joe Biden dropped out of the race last month.”
Also, the Cook Political Report survey of seven key swing states found Harris leading Trump in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Arizona, and tied with Trump in Georgia. Nevada is the only battleground state that Trump still leads, the poll found. – Dave Goldiner, New York Daily News, (dgoldiner@nydailynews.com)
Nikki Haley warned Trump to ‘quit whining’… “The campaign is not going to win talking about crowd sizes. It’s not going to win talking …You can’t win on those things. The American people are smart. Treat them like they’re smart. It’s not about her. It’s about the American people. Talk to them and let them know you need their vote,” Haley said.
Because of this, the “Republicans for Harris” coalition was launched in several swing states. The members want to galvanize support for Vice President Harris among Republicans wary of former President Donald Trump, but are reluctant to vote against the party they’ve long belonged to.
In an exclusive article by Jamie Gangel and Gregdory Krieg in CNN, a conservative Republican who endorsed Harris called Trump a “threat to democracy.” Retired federal appeals court Judge J. Michael Luttig, a prominent conservative legal scholar endorsed Harris over Trump, whose candidacy he described as an existential threat to American democracy.
It will be the first time Luttig, a veteran of two Republican administrations, has voted for a Democrat. “In the presidential election of 2024 there is only one political party and one candidate for the presidency that can claim the mantle of defender and protector of America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law,” Luttig wrote in a statement obtained exclusively by CNN. “As a result, I will unhesitatingly vote for the Democratic Party’s candidate for the Presidency of the United States, Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.”
Also, in an article published Aug 14, 2024, Newsweek, a number of prominent current and former Republicans have emerged as some of Harris’ most ardent supporters as the Democratic presidential nominee looks to win over conservative and moderate voters put off by Trump.
Austin Weatherford, the campaign’s national director of Republican Outreach, previously told the Associated Press that Trump’s “extremism is toxic to the millions of Republicans who no longer believe the party of Donald Trump represents their values.”
Former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye have also joined the GOP deserters. Grisham served multiple roles in the Trump administration. She resigned in the hours after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Troye served as the Homeland Security and Counterterrorism adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence and on the White House Coronavirus Task Force before resigning in August 2020 and endorsing Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Troye hosted a “Republicans for Harris” online rally that was attended virtually by 73,000 people on Tuesday night, according to organizers. The group’s website says “over 100,000 people have joined this campaign within a campaign. Millions of Republicans will cast a ballot for Kamala Harris in November.”
Former Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, a longtime vocal Republican critic of Trump, is among the prominent names on the list. Together with Ana Navarro, they appeared at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, as Kamala Harris received yet another GOP endorsement, from former Republican Virginia Representative Barbara Comstock.

Last month, Kinzinger wrote that the former president had turned the GOP into a “cult of personality.”
Ana Navarro, a Republican strategist and co-host of ABC‘s The View, hosted Tuesday night. Navarro, a frequent critic of former president Donald Trump in recent years, explained on her Instagram why she is supporting Harris.
“I’m a little refugee girl who fled communism, who fled Nicaragua at the age of eight, found freedom, found opportunity, found a home in America, and for me to have the chance to stand on that stage and help my girl, Kamala, make history and become the Democratic nominee, it’s just such a mind-blowing moment,” Navarro said.
The appearances of Kinzinger and Navarro at the DNC came following several other Republican colleagues throwing their support behind Harris for similar reasons, including former Republican congresswoman Barbara Comstock.
In an interview with CNN on Sunday, Comstock spoke about Kinzinger, saying she agreed with what he has said about Trump.
Third, we have to admit that Harris is a more dynamic and charismatic speaker than Biden that can match toe-to-toe Trump’s rhetoric. With her charisma, she can turn the eyes of her listeners and make them attracted to what she is emphasizing. She can capture the audience and can empathize with them. It can match the antics of Trump.
Fourth, she is young and defused one of the most effective attacks the Republicans have levelled against their opponent: the age of Biden. The vice-president, at age 59, is more energetic campaigner and able to make a more coherent case for her party. She could also turn the 78-year-old Trump’s age against him (a boomerang), as he would become the oldest person ever elected president.
Fifth, Harris, being black, may be able to generate support from black voters. She may also combine that with more backing from other minorities and younger voters – Barack Obama’s winning coalition from 2008 and 2012 – that could help her gain ground against Trump in swing states that will decide this year’s election.
Sixth, her background as a prosecutor could also bolster her tough-on-crime credentials in the campaign against Trump. It’s a rivalry between a convicted felon and a prosecutor in the political arena.
Seventh, as the first woman vice president of color, she can transcend this to being the first woman president. Women will rally behind her considering that her opponent is a predator to women as evidenced by his sexual court cases. At least 18 women have accused Trump of varying inappropriate behavior, including allegations of sexual harassment or sexual assault.
The most celebrated of which was that of writer E. Jean Carroll where a jury has ordered Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages for defamatory comments he made about her when he was president. Carroll sued Trump in 2019 for sexually assaulting her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s.
Eight, as for the double haters, they now have a choice in the of person of Kamala Harris. Harris picks up the “double haters” as Democratic enthusiasm jumps, according to the latest polls in an article written by Lauren Sforza. Sforza said Harris is gaining momentum among voters who disliked both Biden and Trump, according to a new poll.
A poll in June found that 54 percent of the double haters who had unfavorable views of Biden and Trump would not support either candidate… and the new poll found that Harris now has 53 percent of the vote among these Biden-Trump double haters.
The ultimate step is for Harris to garner the presidency in the November 5 election, and for all these positive factors in her favor, she can easily win the final lap in the race for presidency!
