Did Imee just admit to BBM’s drug use?

MANILA  –  Did re-electionist Senator Imee Marcos — older sister of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. – just tell the world that her sibling is a drug user?

Ms. Marcos caused a political storm this week with her latest campaign commercial wherein she uses the Tagalog word ‘lulong’.

The word translates to being addicted, usually in tandem with droga or drugs. Thus, ‘nalulong sa droga’ literally means being addicted to drugs.

Lulong can also be used to refer to gambling, alcoholic drings, or women, as in  lulong sa sugal, alak or babae.

Ms. Marcos said in the vernacular that she vowed to fight addiction, be it to drugs or to crime.

It was clearly aimed at the Marcos regime, specifically her brother the president.

She used the harshest words to describe her brother’s government, such as linta (leech)), lason (poisonous) and oportunista (opportunists).

On her social media account, she also said that what began as a political campaign had become a crusade.

She said in the vernacular that she would prove to all that she would never condone wrongdoing.

The president has generally avoided commenting on the claims of his sister, only saying that he disagreed with her views.

As head of the Senate committee on foreign relations, she recently called on the Ombudsman to investigate various administration officials for their role in the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte, which Ms. Marcos said was unconstitutional.

Among the officials she mentioned were Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Philippine National Police chief Rommel Marbil, and special envoy Marcus Lacanilao.

President has long been rumored to be a drug user, reportedly favoring cocaine.

His predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte, has said as much, and even his former executive secretary, lawyer Vic Rodriguez has said that Mr. Marcos should erase such suspicions by taking a hair follicle test.

The president has refused to take the test.
